Yet some of these skills are more valuable than others, primarily because of how the workforce has changed since the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The shifting professional geodynamics COVID created have put a spotlight on communication and empathy as two of the most in-demand interpersonal skills employers are looking for today,&#8221; Gretchen Skalka, leadership and career development coach, says. &#8220;Going remote, often overnight, forced employees and employers to rethink everything they thought they knew about effective communication. Communication in a post-pandemic world means we need to ask deeper, more purposeful questions of each other. We need to communicate with transparency, empathy, and an open mind. We need to listen more and check in with each other about more than the work.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Angeleva agrees that employers want better communication \u2014 specifically mindful communication that focuses on empathy and respect \u2014 in the current work landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Mindful communication is most valued for two reasons,&#8221; Angeleva says. &#8220;First, fewer face-to-face meetings and interactions and more Zoom meetings, calls, texts, emails, and remote working can compromise clarity. Instead, you should elaborate on these skills in your resume experience descriptions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theforage.com\/blog\/basics\/how-to-write-a-cover-letter\">cover letter<\/a>, interview, and even LinkedIn profile and posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, identify what interpersonal skills the employer is looking for in their job description. What do they say about the team dynamics? What kind of team member are they looking for? These are the skills you want to elaborate on in your application materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, to demonstrate that you have these skills, explain how you&#8217;ve used them in your past experiences. Again, if you don&#8217;t have professional work experience, that&#8217;s OK!
