- Excel Skills for Business Finance
Excel is a core tool across business finance roles because it allows professionals to connect data, assumptions, calculations, and outputs in one place. Financial analysts use Excel to build forecasts, understand how a business may perform over time, and see how changes in revenue, costs, cash flow, or financing can affect the wider financial picture.
In this job simulation, you’ll apply your existing Excel skills in a business finance context by building a connected five-year financial forecast for a growing business. You’ll translate business information into forecast assumptions, build a profit and loss forecast, model cash flow and debt, and connect information across worksheets.
You’ll then use the completed model to create clear financial outputs that highlight key trends in growth, profitability, cash, and financing.
By the end of the simulation, you’ll have practiced the type of Excel-based forecasting and financial modeling skills used across roles such as financial analysis, FP&A, corporate finance, and other business finance functions.
If you’re still developing your foundational Excel skills, we recommend completing the Forage Academy Excel Skills simulation first. It will help you build confidence with data preparation, formulas, charts, and automation before applying those skills to financial modeling.
