What I really enjoyed about this simulation was how effectively it bridges the gap between complex tax theory and practical, real-world data analysis. I was able to critically think of solutions, trial and error, and then compile my results and findings. It gave me a sense of work I would be doing in tax at KPMG.

I liked that the simulation gave me a feel for what the day-to-day work of a first-year tax associate may look like. It helped me better understand how research, Excel, problem-solving, and tax calculations can all work together in real projects. I also liked that the tasks felt realistic and hands-on instead of just reading information.
Working through the apportionment step is especially useful because it shows how a single driver—like sales in Pennsylvania relative to total sales—can materially change a company’s tax liability. That “single-factor” setup makes the relationship very direct, which is helpful for understanding how state tax systems work in practice.
