The program provided valuable, practical insight into the kind of work undertaken in a modern software engineering environment at Telstra. Covering areas such as API development, database integration, Behaviour-Driven Development, and code quality practices, the program offered an excellent understanding of their operational environment and equipped me with relevant skills.
The program provided an excellent hands-on experience, allowing me to apply real-world software engineering practices. I particularly appreciated the focus on microservices, BDD with Cucumber, and integrating with external services, which are highly relevant skills in the industry. The structured tasks and clear instructions made the learning process smooth and effective.
The program gave you a practical experience in building a microservice architecture using Spring Boot and JPA. It wasn’t just about writing code — you actually learned to: Design REST APIs. Integrate with a database using JPA. Communicate with another service (SimCardActuator) using REST. Handle real-time data transactions.
