Career Horoscope: What Career Is Right For You Based on Your Zodiac Sign?

Choosing a career that’s right for you should involve many different factors — not only what kind of tasks you’d like to work on, but your skill set, personality, how you work best, how you work with others, and more. So, what about using your career horoscope?

Career horoscopes, or using astrology to help determine your career, can provide insight into what careers might suit you based on specific parts of your personality. What drives you? What are your preferences? How do you move about the world? Here’s why you should consider using a career horoscope, plus exclusive career horoscope tips based on your sign.

Why Should You Use a Career Horoscope When Deciding on Your Career Path?

If you’re like me, your first real introduction to horoscopes was through the popular app Co-Star. The app provides deep, hyper-specific insights into various elements of your horoscope. Suddenly, I was so much more than a Virgo; I had a moon sign, a birth chart, different horoscopes for different aspects of my life, and compatibility scores for each of my friends who connected with me on the app.

I was overwhelmed but fascinated. Some of my friends just liked comparing how compatible we were that day, while others took the app’s daily messages as strict guides for how their day would go. After having the app for over a year, what I learned most was not about myself but rather the ability of horoscopes to help guide us through times when we’re feeling lost, overwhelmed, or indecisive.

Benefits

Why tell this story about my college friends and me using a popular horoscope app? It speaks to the benefits of using astrology to learn more about your personality and help guide you through difficult decisions.

In terms of a career, this means using aspects of your horoscope — like your natural characteristics, tendencies, and how you communicate with others — to help determine what jobs might be a good fit for you. A career horoscope can help you by:

  • Getting reflective: Finding the right career requires thinking deeply about your preferences and goals. Learning more about what your horoscope says about your personality can help spark this reflection, helping you better understand what kinds of work you might enjoy.
  • Giving inspiration: When we’re just starting our job search, it can feel overwhelming to decide what career paths to explore — or even figure out where to look if we don’t know all the options! A career horoscope can give you a helpful starting point for careers to research and explore to see if they’re a good match.
  • Making the job search fun: You’re not alone if you have job search anxiety. Taking another career test that makes you feel stressed because you don’t even know how to answer any of the questions isn’t fun. Your career horoscope offers a playful, exciting alternative to the overwhelming job search.

Drawbacks

Of course, a career horoscope shouldn’t be the be-all, end-all decider of what career you should have — no one career quiz should be! While career horoscopes can be a fun, helpful way to explore different careers, remember that they’re a generalization.

While you have a specific sun sign based on when you were born, this sign only represents one part of your astrological profile. For example, while I might identify with many Virgo characteristics, being a Virgo doesn’t cover all the nuances of my personality, skills, interests, and experience.

Capricorn Career Horoscope

Birthday: December 22 to January 19

Capricorns are ambitious, disciplined, and responsible, which can also lead them to be workaholics. They are often stoic and reserved.

“Capricorns like structure,” says Anna-Jane Stilwell, an astrologer at Business Astrology. “They could consider careers in construction, dentistry, politics, or business. Whatever they do, they will want to become an authority in their field.”

Bethany Nicole, author, relationship expert, and astrologer, further emphasizes the importance of organization in a Capricorn’s work life. She says Capricorns are “extremely hard workers and often find themselves in leadership positions within structured organizations because it fits their natural personality type and energy levels. They thrive in boundaried environments with clear regulations and standards, so they often find themselves successful in them.”

Aquarius Career Horoscope

Birthday: January 20 to February 18

People with the Aquarius sign are humanitarian, independent, innovative, and original. They can also be rebellious, impulsive, and detached.

“Aquarius may be drawn towards high-tech jobs and inventing,” says astrologer Stina Garbis.

Maria Hayes, astrologer and tarot reader, adds that given their impulsive tendencies, people with the Aquarius sign often take little time to consider their career choices. “They go where technology follows,” she says. “Consider careers such as big tech corporations and engineering disciplines!”

Pisces Career Horoscope

Birthday: February 19 to March 20

Pisces people are compassionate, creative, dreamy, and intuitive. They can also be escapist, sensitive, and easily overwhelmed.

“If you’re a Pisces, themes around rehabilitation, therapy, understanding human nature, and working with dreams, illusions, or mental health are all important in terms of helping others, but also serve a purpose of personal fulfillment,” says Lizzie Burgess, tarot reader and astrologer at Backyard Banshee. “The pleasure you get from aiding others feeds into your personal power and fills your cup.”

Aries Career Horoscope

Birthday: March 21 to April 19

People with the Aries sign are self-determined, passionate, impulsive, and assertive.

“Aries is a fire sign who are born leaders and entrepreneurs,” Nicole says. “Aries people excel at finding pathways where others only find obstacles. They have a natural sense of authority and innovation, making them excellent entrepreneurs who create their own businesses and fields. Yet those wonderful qualities can make it difficult for them to hold subordinate positions in overly structured working environments.”

Taurus Career Horoscope

Birthday: April 20 to May 20

People with the Taurus sign are reliable, patient, and practical but can also be possessive and stubborn.

Due to their practicality, desire for stability, and focus on material possessions, “Taurus may be drawn towards careers that make a lot of money, like a stock broker or a banker,” Garbis says.

“People who are born under the sign of Taurus possess a strong desire for stability and gravitate towards professions that provide security and solid footing,” Hayes agrees. “A Taurus’ greatest strength lies in their dependability and pragmatism.”

Gemini Career Horoscope

Birthday: May 21 to June 20

Often known as the twin sign, Geminis are communicative, adaptable, curious, and intellectual. They can also be impulsive, emotional, and inquisitive.

“Gemini folks are simply natural social butterflies,” Hayes says. “This means they have a strong tendency towards communication and are quick to grab and maintain one’s attention. As such, people who are born under the sign of Gemini take up careers in journalism, civil service, and law.”

Cancer Career Horoscope

Birthday: June 21 to July 22

Cancers are sensitive, intuitive, and empathetic. This emotional depth can help them connect with and nurture others but can also lead them to be moody and clingy.

“Anything to do with caretaking will come very naturally to a Cancer, like working with children or the elderly, working with plants, animals, or flowers, being a school counselor,” Nicole says.  “They are very empathic, meaning they pick up a lot from other people, so it’s important they find a supportive environment. For example, a highly competitive and cutthroat role in the stock exchange would not be for them and could seriously affect their mental and even physical well-being.”

Leo Career Horoscope

Birthday: July 23 to August 22

Leos are creative, confident, generous, and warm-hearted while also having a flair for the dramatic. They love being recognized and enjoy being the center of attention.

“Leos possess the inherent leadership capacities that set them apart from the other signs,” Hayes says. “Positions that demand attention or enable you to motivate others align perfectly with your strengths. Hence, Leo people tend towards opportunities in entertainment, politics, business, or any domain where you can take the lead and radiate your brilliance.”

Virgo Career Horoscope

Birthday: August 23 to September 22

Virgos are analytical, detail-oriented, helpful, and hard-working but can be critical and become perfectionists.

“Virgos are analytical animals in the career world,” Hayes says. “As such, they thrive in areas where data is the key factor of work. That is why people born under Virgo’s sign tend towards data analysis and research work. Some Virgo people tend towards professorial work and in the applied sciences.”

Libra Career Horoscope

Birthday: September 23 to October 22

Represented by the scale, Libras are diplomatic, fair-minded, balanced, artistic, and harmonious. They can also be indecisive, superficial, and focused on aesthetics.

“The automatic tendency for the majority of Libra folk is towards the justice system and the field of law,” Hayes says. “Alternatively, they are good investigators and forensic scientists.”

Scorpio Career Horoscope

Birthday: October 24 to November 21

Scorpios are passionate, loyal, resourceful, and brave. Their ambition can also make them secretive, stubborn, and controlling.

“Scorpio is good at digging deep, investigating and exploring the darkest sides of human nature,” Stilwell says. “They could do well in careers such as surgeon, detective, psychologist, coroner, archeologist, or researcher.”

Sagittarius Career Horoscope

Birthday: November 22 to December 21

People born under the Sagittarius sign are optimistic, adaptable, philosophical, independent, straightforward, and restless.

“A Sagittarius is always on the move,” Hayes says. “If they keep still, they might be wasting their cosmic potential! This is the reason why they are in the zone when they are in their field. Consider work as a pilot, a sailor, a career in panoramic photography, or even archaeology.”

How to Use Your Career Horoscope

Now you’ve got your career horoscope — what should you do next?

See What Resonates With You

Some aspects of your horoscope might feel on the nose, while you might not identify with others. That’s OK! Remember, your sun sign is just one part of your horoscope and might not encapsulate your unique personality and experience.

Consider what you did resonate with. Are you a Libra who feels passionate about fairness and justice? A Cancer who feels like they often tap into their emotions? These truths help you understand what values you want to prioritize in your job search.

Research, Research, Research

The best part of a career horoscope is that now you have careers to search for! Based on your exclusive guide, choose a few career paths that resonate with you and research them. You can do this in a few ways:

  • Understand the career path: There’s no shame if you don’t know what a consultant does. (How many people really know what they do, anyway?) Use online career resources, like the Forage blog, to get insights from career experts that break down what people in these careers do, what their work environments are like, and what their career path possibilities are.
  • Look at job descriptions: You’ll learn what day-to-day tasks might look like at different companies, what skills you’ll need to build, and what opportunities are available.
  • Talk to people: Networking can be intimidating, but it’s one of the best ways to get real insight into a specific role or career path. Reach out to people in the field on LinkedIn, through your alum network, or even through friends and ask for an informational interview.
  • Try the career path out: Online programs like Forage job simulations can give you the ability to work on real-world tasks in different career areas at top companies. This gives you a chance to get a taste of a role you might be interested in in a low-stress, self-paced environment. (And, if you end up liking the role and company, you’ll boost your chances of landing a role if you include Forage in your application).

Get Further Astrological Insight

If you’re still stuck on what career path might be right for you, unlocking more of your career horoscope might provide more insight and inspiration. While these career horoscopes focus on your sun sign, there’s much more to your astrological profile.

Your birth chart also includes 12 Houses. Each House represents a specific aspect of your personality, like your identity, values, family, or legacy. The Tenth House, which is your legacy, can help provide insight into specific career ambitions, public image, and reputation. Yet other Houses, like the Eleventh House of Humanity, can provide insight if you want to pursue a career that makes an impact or involves innovation.

“Astrological archetypes provide a basic understanding for everyone — knowing that we are intensely complex individuals with so many different mitigating factors in our lives — that we can always turn to them for inspiration and support when we have moments of obscurity or vagueness in our lives and direction,” Burgess says.
